Helping children navigate their social world

At LRO Family Consulting we provide parent education, school consultation, behavioral and social coaching, teen mentoring and professional development. We are a “family forward” consulting practice with experience and expertise working with parents, children and schools utilizing a collaborative positive behavioral approach. Our clients are parents, children (infancy through young adults), school staff and students from both private and public schools (K-12), private childcare staff and health care providers. Many of the children we work with do not have a formal diagnosis but may be having difficulties regulating their behavior at home, school or out in the community. We assist families and teachers of children with Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, Executive Functioning Difficulties, Mental Health Disorders, and Developmental Disabilities. Our parent education approach is designed to assist parents in need of support and guidance to help their child(ren) grow socially, emotionally and behaviorally with an emphasis on improving the quality of life at home, school and community. We provide advocacy services to parents to help them navigate the IEP process. We can also assist them through the school evaluation or private neuropsychological evaluation process addressing the difficult question of when to assess or not. Our work with childcare providers and school staff provides consultation and on-site social coaching and social skills training to support children with social, emotional and/or behavioral needs. Referrals and case collaboration with school-based, healthcare and mental health clinicians are part of our team’s holistic approach. Parenting and professional development seminars, workshops and training series are available virtually or on-site at schools or community agencies. Typical topics requested by our clients include effective parenting skills, child development skill acquisition, working with children diagnosed with developmental disabilities or mental health disorders, positive behavioral supports, behavior management, classroom management, inclusion practices, special education and the IEP process, social skills assessments and designing a social skills program, etc. Watch for upcoming parent workshops and our monthly blogs on parenting and education-related topics!
